Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and Jennifer has put together a slew of inspiration from gift ideas to decorating for a special brunch:

Since Mother’s Day is about celebrating the mothers in our lives, I love the idea of gifting something very feminine. My favorite presents to give (or receive!) include a beautiful vase of flowers, a pretty dish for the bedside, or an elegant frame with a special photo in it.

You never know what will inspire you to create a room, wrap a gift, or decorate for a party. I love to use inspiration boards to keep anything that sparks an idea or captures a design style I’m thinking about.

A Mother’s Day brunch is a wonderful way to celebrate the women in our lives, from the very young to the older matriarch. It is a great time to bring together friends, daughters, aunts, moms, and grandmothers who have made a difference in our lives and shaped us with their “pearls of wisdom.”

Although heirlooms such as wedding China or a piece of jewelry are handed down from mothers and grandmothers, it is those lovely words of motherly advice that are most useful: “Don’t souch.”

“Always write a thank-you note.”

“Never be too proud to pick up a penny.”

“Don’t chew gum in public.”

“Remember who you are.”

“I’ll always love you the most.”

For this Mother’s Day brunch, I’m starting with “Pearls of Wisdom” for my inspiration. I have shared this for previous Mother’s Days, and I’m happy to share it again. I believe a mother’s advice is special and even more poignant as we grow older. After we’ve had our own life experiences, sometimes we find ourselves repeating those little things our mothers or grandmothers always said.

Further sweetening the occaision and keeping the mood fun, each guest also gets a card to fill out that says, “My mother always told me…”  This is a great conversation starter and reminds young guests the importance of family. Those pieces of advice that are handed down transcend generations because they are usually universal truths.

Personalized placecards make guests feel special. I used a small frame that could also be used as a party favor.

I have always believed in decorating from door to table. Your front door immediately sets the tone for what is to come inside. For our door wreath, I’ve printed some of my favorite “pearls of wisdom” and framed it with a bow to coordinate with our brunch tablescape.

Design tip: If you don’t have placemats to go with your party, simply use a napkin on the diagonal, and you’re all set!
