Our guest started out enjoying a wonderful picnic buffet under a canopy catered by Adam 205.

We took a large metal urn filled it with some sand for stability and filled it with these great tree limbs to create an out door feel for our guests and hung glass and iron lanterns from the ceiling and branches for a elegant atmosphere.

Our Summer Soiree had a lovely bird theme.

Burlap and leaves set the background for our scrumptious buffet.

Fresh fruit with Lavender-infused dipping sauce!

Silverware wrapped in linen napkins tied with raffia makes it easy for your guests when serving buffet style.

The buffet is open!

Once everyone enjoyed the buffet they proceeded to the design room were an assortment of mini sweets awaited them.

Large white Christmas lights were draped from the ceiling like a old fashioned country party that creates a great atmosphere for al fresco dining.

Vicky began to share her easy to make centerpieces on the tables that night.

She makes it look so easy!

The supplies you will need!

What a cute idea!

Each table was set with these adorable arrangements by VLS Designs!

No party or picnic is complete with out a party favor. We took black chinese boxes and filled them with treats from our three stores. On top of the boxes are two great recipes from that evening to try at home on their next summer picnic.

This table features some of our great paper plates, napkins, initial Styrofoam cups and other great non breakables for easy outdoor entertaining.

These wine glasses won’t break at your next soiree for they are acrylic and will just bounce! It still gives you a very sophisticated look without having to worry about ruining your crystal.

Who would want the real thing when these paper plates look so great!

A large caddy is great for getting things to and from the house.

With all the outdoor kitchens and large covered patios being added to our homes these days we are seeing a strong trend in the use of indoor furniture outside too. This great table has a galvanized top and a painted grey base that we paired with these fantastic black ladder back chairs. It was the perfect base to start or bird themed table scape.

Of course I did some layering. I started of with a round mirror framed in metal for my charger and then stacked an inexpensive painted frame on top, then finally the crisp white plate for some contrast. The birds nest is the party favor as well as it just looks great with our theme. And the antler silverware continues our rustic feel for the table.

I used a small iron bird feeder for the wine caddy. The unexpected is always great for guests.

A picnic outside does not always have to be a full blown affair. It can simply be dessert and wine for two on a clear starry night.

This great wardrobe is perfect for a covered porch and is from our new Paula Dean Collection.

A neutral slipcover chair can change easily with the seasons and makes it easy to keep clean.

What would Summer be without a true picnic? It is so nice to pack a meal and head to the park or lake. And when I do I don’t let that stop me from doing it up in style. I bring a nice blanket for cushioning on the ground and then throw a beautiful tablecloth over the top. I also bring along some plump pillows to lounge on under the tree. And if you don’t have time to cook, Connie and her staff at The Funky Art Cafe can make a lovely picnic for two, four or more.

Vicky and I had a great time at our Dine and Design that evening with all our special guests. And we are anxiously planning the next one.

Spring turns to Summer in a moment here in Texas. And even I slow down long enough to rest awhile in the dappled sun of our yard, enjoying the early Summer breeze. It is warm here in Texas but the breeze is still keeping the sweet off of the brow. So this Summer why not take the party outside? Whether it’s a backyard barbecue, a crawfish boil, a picnic in the country or a romantic dinner for two, Hermann’s has some great ideas for you this Summer.
